INTRODUCTION
Hello, and welcome to the exclusive Soldier of Fortune
walkthrough. I am Neb, and I
will be guiding you through the numerous locations within the game. Remember
that this is my opinion on the best way to beat the game, if you have a better
or different way, that's great, and you can use that. I am simply giving a nice
guide to completing the game in the most efficient way I see possible. I will
give a basic compilation on how to beat each individual level, as well as specific
tips at key areas, what to arm yourself with for each mission, and little hints
that can help you through your adventure. But let's cut the cornball and get
to the game, shall we?
Before I jump right into the first mission, I'd like to talk a little about
basic gameplay. To start off, even if you're playing on the Effortless difficulty
setting, the AI (Artificial Intelligence) in SoF (Soldier
of Fortune) is still amazing. Bad guys will try to trap you,
call for help, sneak up behind you, and use almost any means necessary to dodge
your bullets. And their successfulness in using these tactics gets better and
better the harder you make the game. To compete with this, you must do the same.
Hide behind every pillar, door, and wall you can. Duck behind every car, table,
and desk you can find. Team up with as many Swat Team members as you can. Use
peaking around corners (holding the "use" key and sidestepping one way or the
other) very often. This game is as real as it gets, and if you don't have the
skills or the reflexes, this walkthrough isn't going to do anything for you.
My next topic refers to actual gun fighting. Personally, I like going in without
a cross hair, but that probably won't be the same with the rest of you. Make
sure that when you shoot, you hit something. Always have your targets lined
up, and make those trigger pulls count. Another word to the wise, always reload.
Almost after every shot you fire, you should reload, as long as you're not in
any immediate danger. One of my favorite things to do in gunfights is to run
up to an enemy, and just as he fires, I'll duck. He'll miss, and I'll make him
sterile, get the point?
Lastly, I want to talk about little tidbits of information that might help you
out while you're playing. One of the coolest features that I'm sure almost everyone
has overlooked is the Swat Team. For those of you who didn't know this, if there
is a dead cop on the ground, you can shoot him, and his body will reflex, and
he will release the grip he has on his pistol. This helps when you need a little
extra ammunition. Another thing is shooting guns out of enemies hands. This
is good for disarming guys without killing them if you're in a tight situation.
I would talk about all the different weapons, but I'll describe each one once
you have an opportunity to actually use it in the game. Okay, now that that
boring lecture is out of the way, let's save the world.
NOTE: One final word, if you notice any errors in specifics on levels or weapons,

MISSION
I, LEVEL I: NEW YORK SUBWAY STATION
Now that I have your attention, I'd like to add that I won't talk about actual
plot too much, for I don't want to spoil anything for you, but I will tell you
basic objectives you have to complete for each level, starting with this one,
the subway station.
Your basic goal is to rescue any hostages possible, and kill a terrorist group
leader by the name of Sabre. You will start off at the top of a stairwell, and
you'll hear a thug scream "cops"! You'll just catch a glimpse of him running
off to the right at the bottom of the stairs.
Before we kill this sucker, let's discuss the weapons and items you have on
your person that you can choose from at the moment.

WEAPONS
Knife
(Pig Sticker): A great weapon. You have six, and can throw a total of five.
They are accurate, and you can recollect them as well, which is great.
9mm (Black Panther): This handgun is a standard pistol, but it gets the job
done. With an eighteen round clip and fast firing capacity, you can easily mow
down five guys at a time.
B-52 Combat Shotgun (Berserker): Holds a capacity of eight shells at a time.
Poor accuracy at long range, but it comes in hands when going around tight corners.
NOTE: For more information on these weapons, simply hit "Tab". This will take
you to an objectives list, as well as the current situation you've been placed
in. Below your objectives will be detailed descriptions on all the weapons you
are presently carrying. Information on RPM (Round Per Minute), Clip Size, Ammunition
Size, and so forth.

ITEMS
C-4 (Maximum of 4): A common terrorist explosive. With a five-second charge,
it works somewhat like a grenade, only more powerful, and it can't be thrown
as far. Good for blowing up groups of enemies.
Grenade (Maximum of 6): A great weapon for getting pesky enemies that hide around
corners. They can be thrown far, and pack quite a punch.
Flash Grenades (Maximum of 6): Good for disorienting the bad guys. Anyone who
catches of glimpse of the detonation will be temporarily blinded and will lose
balance as well. Good when you need to get yourself out of a bind.
Okay, now that we know what we're using, let's do just that. After about a quarter
of the way down the stairwell, that thug you saw will lean out from his hiding
spot and open fire on you. Kill him. When you get to the bottom of the stairs,
hook a right, and you will see another stairway, somewhat shorter than the first.
Walk down this. You will see a cop lying down and firing at two convicts. He
will die, and one of the convicts (who wields a shotgun) will come after you.
The other thug will pull down a soda machine in front of him for cover. Take
care of them. After this, don't forget to shoot the already dead cop for some
extra ammunition.
Make your way to the fallen soda machine, and go around to the right side of
it. If you turn around and face the way you came, you will notice a door to
the right that you didn't see before. Approach this, and a thug will kick it
open. Drop some brass and get rid of him. Continue on your merry way around
the next corner. You will hear a hostage begging for mercy, with a thug screaming
"shut up!" Make your way around the corner and kill the convict, freeing the
hostage.
You will notice that there are two ways to go from here. You can go straight,
or you can go to the left. Start by going to straight. You will come to a stairway,
and there will be two hostages on the ground, each one held at gunpoint by a
terrorist. We will call this the "Lounge", for future purposes. Kill the terrorists,
and then go back up the stairs from the way you came. DO NOT go down the other
hallway.
When you get back to that original intersection, take the left fork. You will
notice a hallway to the right, and a door to the left. Go in this door. You
will notice some shotgun shells, some grenades, and some C-4. Once you get it,
if you back up against the wall, the door will slam shut, and you will hear
a voice say "He's in here!". Get ready to drop brass and kill three terrorists.
Now you can go straight out the door and down this uncharted hallway. To the
left is a stairwell. If you choose, you can go down here, kill a few guys, go
into the two bathrooms, and kill more guys. But it is not necessary for completion
of this mission, so I won't go into detail with that section. I usually ignore
that stairwell, and continue going straight to another stairwell that appears
on the left. Hear you see a terrorist saying, "Shut up!" to a hostage. Pop him.
Two of his buddies will come at the sound of your gun, kill them as well. Make
your way down a winding passage, but go slow. You will eventually emerge around
one corner and will notice a kind of booth at the other end of a hallway.

NEB'S
KNOWLEDGE
Yes kids, it's time for one of those key spots in a mission that I will
give you detailed and specific information on. Whenever you see this notice,
it means PAY ATTENTION. The booth that you have spotted contains three guys.
Two have pistols, and they are located on the left. The other has a shotgun.
There are many ways to get past this point, but I will give my own opinion
on the matter.
If you advance forward, the thugs will open fire. I usually like to kill
one from a distance, they will still open fire after this, but at least
I got one out of the way. The guy with the shotgun will get up and try to
run toward a door that you cannot see. If you can, kill him right away.
If not, he'll come to get you, and you can kill him then. Hopefully you
have killed all the guys in the booth. Now it's time for some "jump-ducking".
I will probably refer to jump-ducking a lot in this walkthrough. Jump-ducking
is basically what it says. You jump while ducking. Although it seems simple,
you might want to practice it so you can get used to it. You are going to
go to the front of the booth, and will jump-duck through the broken glass,
gaining access to the inside. After doing this, duck immediately and turn
around. If you back up enough, you will notice a thug has appeared with
a shotgun from where you just were. Kill him. You'll also notice a hostage
running around. He's doing this because off to the left there is another
terrorist that you cannot see. Shoot him from the safety of the booth.
You are okay for now. If you would please notice, there is a switch in this
room. Hit it. You will jump to a short cinema that shows a door sliding
open, revealing a shotgun toting bastard in wait.
If you can, collect all the ammo in the booth, then find your way out. There
is a door in the booth, which can open from the inside. Take a right out
of this door. To the left is the Lounge, which we saw earlier. Make your
way back to the outside front of booth, and go forward. You'll come to the
sliding door and the terrorist, kill him.
Go down the hall and to the left, you will be on top of some stairs. A thug
will lean around a corner on the left and shoot at you, another will run
out at the same time with a shotgun. Kill them both. Once you get to the
bottom of these stairs, there will be another set of stairs to the left.
Another guy will pop out at the bottom of these. Shoot him. Get to the bottom
of the stairs.

A
WORD ON ENEMIES
This is one of those spots in the game that has a certain number of enemies
depending on which difficulty setting you're playing on. If you're playing
on medium or lower, the bad guys I describe should stay consistent with
your game. If you're on a higher difficulty setting, beware for more bad
guys.
Once you're at the bottom of the stairs, hook a left. There should be a
guy fiddling with a coke machine, as well as another pistol thug. Cap them
both.
You are now at another set of stairs, walk down these and hang a right.
Go forward down the hall. A guy will gun out from the left. Shoot him. When
you get to where this bad guy came from, you will notice yet more stairs.
But this time you will notice a door elevated on the left. If you move down
halfway, the door will bust open, revealing a guy carrying a shotgun. Not
only this, but also two guys will begin shooting at you from the bottom
of the stairs. Kill them all. Once the enemy is neutralized, make your way
down the stairs and take a right. You will then proceed down a hall, go
slowly. On the left is a turn, and if you go slow enough, you will be able
to sneak up on a guy with a shotgun who has a hostage. You can kill him
and save the hostage if you're stealthy enough. If you just run around the
corner he will shoot the hostage into a subway car!
Whether or not the hostage dies, you will notice that a subway car does
fly by. After killing the shotgunner. Go forward. You are now going to jump
onto the tracks. To the right is a guy with a pistol. Kill him. To the left
is where you want to go. Go forward for awhile, and you will eventually
see the subway car, which has crashed. There is a fork in the tracks, take
the right one. There is a hobo here as well. If you're fast enough, you'll
see a terrorist running toward you, and he's about to kill the hobo! Shoot
him if you can. Continue on the tracks the way the terrorist came from.
You will notice an alcove to the right. Skip this. A WARNING: There is a
subway car that is speeding toward you from behind. Not to worry, another
one shows up on the left, which you want to enter, because you will attract
a bad guy to lean out from an alcove further up the tracks and to the right,
along with a hobo. Hopefully the subway car will hit him when it flies by.
If not, kill him yourself. Continue along the tracks until you get to another
alcove on the right, which turns out to be a hallway.
Follow this, and you will see a cop, who runs forward firing. If you follow
him closely, you'll see him get shot by a shotgun-carrying ass. Kill him
as he jumps toward you. To the right is a guy with a gun, kill him as well.
Continue forward, onto another set of tracks between two subway cars, then
jump up onto the opposite side. You will see a stairwell in front of you,
but you are on the wrong side. Go around so you can maneuver up these stairs,
and kill two terrorists at the top.
You're almost done. You don't have to worry about bad guys for now, so just
follow the hallways and stairs until you meet your partner Hawk. The game
will jump to a short movie, showing Sabre standing on a subway car and laughing
his head off. Go after him. To do this, run over to a railing hanging over
a subway car.
Jump onto the car, it will mysteriously start up, and you will be traveling
along. Get out your shotgun, and aim it to the left. You will pass some
weird looking windows, and then you will see another subway car emerge along
yours. There are three guys standing on this adjacent car. Blow their legs
off. WARNING: Make sure you do not jump off the front of the car, or you
will get trampled.
Once the car comes to a stop, you will see Sabre up ahead, you can now get
off the car and go after him. Unfortunately he gets away, leaving you to
take care of three bad guys. They should be relatively easy to kill. After
they're dead, Hawk will warn you that more subjects are coming your way.
Turn around and take care of them. There should be between three to five
bad guys. Once they are all dead, the game will jump to the ending cinema
for the Subway. Congratulations, you have beaten the first level.
