Q:
Was anyone in your family in WW2?
A: Yes. An uncle. Other than that, I come from
a long and distinguished line of draft dodgers.
Q: What shortcomings did you find
with SoF?
A: Don't like the little crosshairs for sights.
Would much rather sight down the actual gunsights.
Q: How do you feel about the gore
level on SOF?
A: Not too realistic, the gore. Still, gotta
have some flash and dash, I suppose.
Q: Will SoF
2 go back in history...like some flashback missions you did..or will it
continue to have present-day missions?
A: As to SOF
II, it will start back in the late '80s, with an actual mission, and come
to the near present.
Q: I'd like to know what Mr. Mullins
thinks about the sound in the game. The sound in Saving Private Ryan had
a great deal of effect on the movie, in my opinion, and I think that's important
in games, too.
A: The sound probably needs to be maximized
a bit more. Surround them with it.
Q: Is your book (Days of Fire) still
in print?
A: Days of Fire is out of print, but
there are a few copies left at Buford Books, PMB 105,
1509 Main St. Altus, OK 73521. Send $6.00. I'll make sure it gets
autographed.
Q: Do you really work at a bookstore?
A: No. I make ammunition.
Q: Do you think the Artificial Intelligence
in SoF was way too unrealistic. With
that in mind, will SoF 2 try to make
enemies harder to kill?
A: As to harder to kill, don't know that there
is any purpose served in that, if you really want realism. People aren't
hard to kill at all.
Q: Were you very publicized before
this game came out?
A: No, not at all. I spent a career avoiding
publicity like the plague it was.
Q: How did you sleep after you killed
someone?
A: On a pillow.
Q: Do you regret working on the game?
A: No, I don't regret working on the game at
all. I have found it to be fascinating.
Q: How about the gaming community
in general?
A: Brilliant people. What a way to make a living!
Q: Any truth to the rumors of putting
weapons that exist in the real world in SOF2?
A: Yes, we are going to use real weapons, all
of current or former military issue.
Q: Have you ever fought any other
specials ops from different countries? If so was their skill even comparable
to the US?
A: We fought Cubans in many places, and Spetznaz
in a few. No, there was no comparison.
Q: Have you gone back and played
any of Raven's previous games? Heretic II or Hexen II for instance? :)
A: No, I haven't. One of these days I'll get
the time. Or maybe I'll die first.
Q: When you were in your first actual
combat situation, what was your reaction?
A: Training took over. I reacted exactly as
I had been trained. It was only after that I realized that someone was actually
trying to kill me. I was disturbed.
Q: Do you think that military training
really prepares you for what you, yourself had to face? Or did you have
to learn a lot on your own?
A: Military training does as well as it can,
and it does better than any other training in the world (including police).
But you don't really know what you are going to do until you do it. And
then you may not do it the same way the next time.
Q: Have you ever felt guilty of killing
someone who shouldn't even be on the battlefield? I mean, I'm sure you've
gone up against someone who can barley even shoot a gun. . .
A: Guilt is a wasted emotion.
Q: Thanks a lot Mr. Mullins, it was
nice of you to take the time to answer our questions!
A: My Pleasure. I enjoyed it. Now go out there
and tell all those people who think games are dangerous that they are full
of s***. After all, when you're sitting at the computer, you're not robbing
a convenience store, are you?
