S3TC Fix for Soldier of Fortune Posted by ExitWound on Monday, October 23, 2000
Seems as the guys at Reactor Critical have posted a fix for the autocompression of the textures in Soldier of Fortune. You can grab the file here or right from our files section here if you are a GeForce owner. The "Battle of Titans" article mentioned the Quake3 sky texture banding, an old-aged problem of GeForce. Our colleagues from russian site NVidia World have created a patch for Quake3 and Soldier Of Fortune. The patch fixes the aforementioned problem. It proved to be possible to improve the compressed texture quality for the GeForce series by switching from the DXT1 texture compression algorithm to DXT2 - DXT5. The method is only applicable to games that do not contain precompressed S3TC textures and use the autocompression only. UPDATE:I have installed the S3TC patch and have posted a before and after picture HERE. Screenshot taken on a GeForce SDR at 800x600x32bits, all settings maximum.

Get Personal: Kenn Hoekstra Posted by EvilGreg on Monday, October 16, 2000
SharkyGames has put up a feature interview with Kenn Hoekstra, Project Administrator for Ravensoft. They ask him all about what it's like to be in his position and have such highly praised games released by Raven. Whet your appetite with this clip:Sharky Extreme: A Project Admin at a game company really seems to be jack-of-all trades. Do you have a real job description you can share?Kenn Hoekstra: My job description leans heavily on the phrase "other duties as assigned by management." I do a lot of the things that no one has time to do. I serve as the company's office manager, Webmaster and tech support guru, both for our games and our company's equipment. In addition, I monitor our message boards and online public relations as well as some marketing and promotional duties. I also do a good deal of technical writing, coordinating and, like I said, just about anything else the company sees fit to drop on me in any given week. "Jack-of-all-trades" is a great summary of the position.

1.06 Gold Patch Tomorrow!! Posted by ExitWound on Wednesday, October 4, 2000
This from the Ravensoft message board:
The SOF Gold patch is in its last round of Activision QA testing. What this means is that the masters just need to be verified before the patch can go live. Without stating it "officially," and provided that nothing major occurs to delay the release, the 1.06 Gold patch should be available for download sometime tomorrow (10/6), hopefully before noon PST.
Thank you all for you patience.
