 WON IP UPDATE
 Posted by ExitWound on Sunday, March 25, 2001

The 3rd master machine is repaired and available again. It has a new IP which is:

63.251.143.212

Feel free to update your config files. To be clear, these are the 3 IPs for the SoF master servers:

sof.west.won.net = 128.167.56.38
sof.central.won.net = 209.191.156.168
sof.east.won.net = 63.251.143.212

I also know that more IP changes are coming in the future due to other data re-organization changes. For the time being, I would make your DNS0 be equal to sof.east.won.net as it is stable for the forseeable future. I'll try to post advance warning on any DNS changes.

 Silver Forces Update!!!
 Posted by ExitWound on Sunday, March 25, 2001

Straight from the horse's mouth:
Silver Forces is going the release the next version of their mod for SOF friday this week. Once again, the menus will have been updated, more maps and games types will have been added , the Counterstrike skin pak will come with the mod and server setup will have been made much easier (just need to launche the dedicated batch files that will come along with the mod).

Here is the list of the main features of the next release:

- 8 fully working defuse maps for online games
- Counterstrike skin paks
- Menus improved with team and general message options
- 2 new game types: Jailbreak & Fire
- 3 ready-to-launch server files (deathmatch, defuse, and all game types together)
- Bugs have been cleared from some maps and some have been redone too (the entrance under the sub in 'bomb_sub', the host_airport map, the red base and weapon layout in 'bomb_irak'....)
- Countdown times for defuse games has been slightly increased
- Scores have been reduced for the red team in defuse maps
- Invisible hostages on 'host_airport' have been spawned back in

2 maps will be ready for the Jailbreak game type: in the first one, the red team's mission is to escape from prison whereas the blue team has to stop them from doing so and every time a red player is killed he respawns in a cell... where he has to wait for one of his mates to deliver him of can deliver himself but 10 points will be taken off his frags if he does so. In the second map, each team has a prison and every guy killed by a team will be respawned in the team's prison waiting to be delivered...

The Fire game type will comprise 2 maps too and both of them will have the same objectives:
Each team has a button in it's base and the other team has to come and press it... There's a flame in the middle of the map and when a button is pressed in a base, the flame will start heading towards that base... In order to protect their base from the flame, the threatened team has to go and press the button in the other base in order to make the flame head the other direction. As soon as the flame reaches a base, the base explodes and the flame come back to the middle of the map...

 WON DNS UPDATE
 Posted by ExitWound on Friday, March 16, 2001

This whole WON IP thing is horrible. I am not going to bash WON for this, but the information given to the community has not been done in the best of ways. So I present you with this, A NEW THREAD with instructions on how to handle the WON DNS IP situation. I am just relaying information as it comes to me, as I am not active in the SOF Online World anymore. Take precautions and Soldier-of-fortune.com is not responsible for anything that happens regarding the use of this information.

 WON DNS IP's?
 Posted by ExitWound on Wednesday, March 14, 2001

Ryanboy called me up and said "Hey. Check this out, yo!" So I did. Seems as if WON has been fiddling around and many fraggers couldn't get online because of this. If you are still having problems, check this thread out for instructions on how to fix it.

Update: Thanks again to Ryanboy for a new link to the explanation on why the WON DNS errors are occuring and how to fix them.

 French SOF Site Opens
 Posted by ExitWound on Monday, March 12, 2001

Tsyrak was kind enough to spread the word about a new Soldier of Fortune site opening. This one, however, will be French-driven. This is what was said:
After 1 month of hard work, I'm proud to announce that a new French web site dedicated to Soldier of Fortune is available, its name : Soldiers of Fortune associés aka "le SoFa".

Its aim is to gather the French speaking SoF players and improve their skills on the multiplayer game by organizing training sessions as well as French speaking tournaments (to begin with).

The first SoFa tournament shall begin by the end of the month; registrations are open [please note that, _at the time_, those are French speaking tournaments only -- one French speaking person per clan required].

The website can be found here.

 Raven Software Job Opening - Character Animator
 Posted by Za0oO on Thursday, March 1, 2001

Raven Software just got a big hole in their team, will you be able to patch that hole? Well you could, if you're a talented Character Animator and you think you've got the qualifications;
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of motion (timing, weight, secondary motion also called follow through/overlapping action) with a character.
  • Low poly modeling techniques will be considered.
  • Ability to draw is a plus.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and do what is necessary to meet deadlines.

Raven model and animate their characters in the Softimage line of products, and they're currently running Softimage|XSI. Working knowledge of Softimage is a plus but not necessarily required. They are willing to train on the job but the qualifying candidate must be open to different software packages and withhold no allegiance to any one.

Submissions should be the best of your character animations and must be your work only. Include loops like a walk and run cycle, deaths, and other interesting dynamic action. An animation of a bouncing ball is acceptable but flying spaceships is not character animation. You can send samples via e-mail, ftp, html, CD, or VHS.
