Interview by Patrick 'twisted' Hardy
|
TheFatal, maker of many FPS bots, had a chance to answer a few
questions his latest creation in progress, the SoF bot. While
the bot will be released shortly, he still has some work to do on it. So,
check out my latest interview with the man known as Rich 'TheFatal' Whitehouse.

twisted: Have you come up with a name for the bot yet?
TheFatal: I intend to call it hidebot ("hee-day-bot"), named after
my favorite Japanese rock star, hide (or Hideto Matsumoto).
twisted: When did you first come up with the concept of creating
a bot for Soldier of Fortune?
TheFatal: After playing the demo and loving it so very much.
twisted: If the bot turns out to be a success, will you keep making
revisions/patches for it?
TheFatal: I will even if everyone hates it. Unless there aren't any
bugs. (ha ha ha)
twisted: Will the bot be compatible for all multiplayer modes
such as Arsenal and Assassin?
TheFatal: Hopefully. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet, but
I'm going to try to make it work with them in the first release.
twisted: Do you plan to put up a site dedicated to the bot?
TheFatal: Yeah, probably. I'm not sure when I'll get around to doing
that. Probably sometime within the next week or two.
twisted: Can you describe what the typical process is for making
a bot for SoF?
TheFatal: Allocate edict under maxclients value, run client initialization
functions on edict, hack around in code to stop overflow errors on edict,
create main think function to be called every frame, write lots and lots
of AI. I think that would be about it.
twisted: Are you planning on doing more than one bot for SoF?
TheFatal: Probably not. I generally stick with one bot for one game,
unless I do something very horrible to the bot and have to start all over
again.
twisted: What features will be implemented in the first release?
TheFatal: That's a surprise! Though I'll say that it will be able
to navigate levels with ease and do all the other things a bot must do to
be good. |
